The Summer Youth Job Program (SYJP) is an extension of the Pre-Employment Transition Services program (PETS) offered through UpLIFTD. The SYJP will run from April – July 2016 and will involve public, private or charter schools through Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas.
In order to qualify for the SYJP students must be juniors/seniors between the ages of 16 – 21, not have graduated high school by May 31, 2016 and must have some type of disability/impairment. This includes individuals that wear eyeglasses, take any type of prescription medication, receive counseling, have residual problems from previous injury or illness, etc. Students interested in joining the program must complete a streamlined PETS application through Louisiana Rehabilitation Services.
Employers who partake in the program will encounter no costs for placement of students in their organization. In addition, they will be reimbursed for up to $8.00 per hour, for up to 40 hours per week. They are required to complete a two-page form in order to collect their direct deposit information because wage reimbursements will occur via direct deposit at the end of every month.
UpLIFTD is working in conjunction with several predetermined schools; however, we will accept students from all over the community who are interested in being part of the program and would like to work with UpLIFTD.
